A fun-filled Scottish wedding in Eyam Hall

Phil and Lizzi’s wedding in Eyam Hall was pure carnage in all the best ways!

Not only is Phil half-Scottish, P&L are both rugby players (need I say more?!) And it made for just the best day! It was fun, romantic, completely heartfelt, gloriously drunken…I was laughing pretty much non-stop from the moment I arrived!

And you know what else? It was beautiful too. And I mean *really* beautiful.

Styled to elegant, colourful, quirky perfection by Village Green Events. Filled with florals to die for. And all of it backdropped by the spectacular Eyam Hall wedding venue.

If you’re searching for inspiration, you’re in the right place. Come take a look, you’re gonna LOVE it!
Oh, and did I mention, their wedding was featured in non other than The Times Newspaper!!!

Bridal styling, and Samson the cockapoo

We started the day in Lizzi’s family home. And honestly, the whole morning was just absolute vibes!

Lizzi’s wedding crew were awesome, so lovely, so much fun. And their energy was infectious! Champagne was flowing, everyone was laughing, Samson was getting lots of cuddles. Oh and I can’t forget to mention Lizzi’s mum’s famous millionaire shortbread that couldn’t go untasted!

There were love letters, tears, and more champagne. It was just the best way to start the day.

Lizzi looked beautiful in her elegant dress from Justin Alexander. And as a vibrant splash of colour, *the most* spectacular peony and rose bouquet (dotted with little Scottish thistles!) She was so happy, so excited. And when she came in for her ‘first look’, it was tears all round!

There were hugs, kisses, a few more tears. And when everyone was ready, we drained our glasses and left for the church.

Guinness, confetti, and one last bouquet

The ceremony was lovely- super heartfelt and romantic. (Not to mention the endless cuteness from Samson the Flower Dog!)

The vicar made it official. Phil and Lizzie kissed, the guests cheered. And P&L walked back down the aisle as husband and wife.

They were greeted straight out of church with a pint of Guinness from the pub over the road! And while they were sharing their first newlywed pint, we arranged the most EPIC confetti line!

Don’t you just love rainbow paper confetti?!

The reception called. But before we left, we had one more stop…to pay our respects to Lizzi’s grandparents.
L&P took some time to lay Lizzi’s bouquet, and raise a quiet toast to the people they wish were there.

Drinks reception at Eyam Hall wedding venue

Eyam Hall wedding venue is a beautiful place to spend your wedding day.

The centuries-old house, the picturesque gardens, the Derbyshire countryside. And just a stone’s throw from the wedding marquee, a literal field of buttercups!

And let me tell you, the drinks reception was idyllic! Guests were playing croquet, the sun was shining, the nibbles were delicious, the drinks were in full flow! What more could you want?!

Oh, and of course we had to get some impromptu couple shots! (I mean, what kind of wedding photographer would I be if we *didn’t* follow Samson into the buttercups?!)

Just a few stolen minutes away from the crowds was perfect. Samson bounding at their feet, the sound of their guests chatting in the distance, the breeze among the buttercups.

Reception styling inspo in Eyam Hall wedding marquee

The Eyam Hall wedding marquee is a wonderful space for your reception. And Village Green Events had styled it beautifully.

Gorgeously colourful florals and vibrant banners brought colour into the space. Black, white and gold stationary added a touch of understated elegance. And on each place setting, deep blue napkins and thistles carried on the Scottish theme.

I particularly loved their guest book idea too. They’d had cards made with a photo from our pre-wedding shoot. And then they got everyone to sign the cards, so they’ve got a pack of cards as a momento. Such a cool idea, right?!

The speeches were amazing- properly laugh-out-loud funny and really heartfelt. They carved their own beef for their meal (another cool idea!)

And- you guessed it- kept on drinking!

Wedding photography at Eyam Hall

Now I’m not sure if this was the best decision or worst decision! But we left the bridal party photos until the evening.

And yeah…everyone was half cut and it was pure carnage! But that’s the kinda photos you want with your mates, right?! The kinda photos that’ll still make you laugh in thirty years time.

With my retinas still burning, the guys had made their way back to the bar. And we snuck Lizzi and Phil away for a little stroll around the gardens. And it was so wonderful- in the midst of all the chaos and attention- to give them a few minutes alone to just be

And oh my, the gardens in Eyam Hall are just perfect for your couple’s portraits. So peaceful, so secluded. And just the most beautiful place to escape the crowds, and be alone as a newly married couple.

A ceilidh, a brass band, and a family boat race

In case you were wondering, a ceilidh is kinda like a Scottish barn dance. And let me tell you…they are SO fun. In fact, even if you’re not Scottish I’d recommend it for your wedding! It’s an absolute blast!!

And as a wedding photographer, the only way to capture the energy of a party like that is to be a part of it! So there I was, taking photos with one hand, Scottish dancing with the other!

Then as soon as the ceilidh band finished, Back Chat Brass marched into the dance floor and kicked it up a notch!

As golden hour fell, we nipped outside for a few speedy romance shots (because why not?!) And then as the party raged inside, we headed back in for a pint-drinking family boat-race!

It. Was. Wild.

Pure chaos, pure fun, bath-fulls of alcohol. And just so much love from start to finish. The result? A wedding gallery of pure happiness.
