Lake District Proposal Photography

One Bernese mountain dog, a few mountains & lots of Lake District rain!

In April 2024, I embarked on a day trip to the Lake District, to photograph something super excited and in total hiding…

But first, let’s rewind to earlier on in 2024, when I got an enquiry from Jack. He told me he was planning to propose to his girlfriend, she’d mentioned she loved my photography and would I capture it for them? Then he told me they had a Bernese Mountain dog puppy, so naturally I was onboard instantly!!

Fast forward a couple of months and Jack whisked Cali away on a surprise trip to the Lake District, 5.5 hours from their home in the South of England. Their first stop was at Buttermere Lake. A location myself and Jack had spent a longggg time scouting out, getting the perfect location and using What3Words to pin point it. I love hiking in the Lake District, so I know there is absolutely no signal once you get in the valley. We had to be proactive and sort out timings and logistics well in advance, and then hope it all went to plan!!!

Hiding behind logs…

My boyfriend, Adam, came with me and I don’t think I could have done it without him. We arrived in the Lake District a couple of hours before Jack & Cali so that we could check out the location again, and go into full MI5 hiding mode. After we’d curated a plan, all there was left to do was wait…

We stood hiding behind a pile of logs, watching the gate and hoping that Jack & Cali walked through and weren’t put off by the rain! Luckily they stood out having Goose, the Bernese Mountain dog, and the fact that no one else was daft enough to be out in that awful weather!!! Then we followed them for about a mile, it wasn’t easy, the Lake District landscapes are absolutely stunning, so they stopped to take photos a lot, and we had to pretend to do the same!

She said yes!

Eventually, after what felt like a lifetime of nervous waiting, we got to the location. Jack setup his phone to pretend to take a photo of them both, and then he got down on one knee. Between us, we captured it all and it was the most beautiful proposal and an honour to be a part of it!
Goose was like a paid actor, being in all the right places at the right times and looking at the camera when I needed him to (I think he was just wondering why on earth we were watching him!!!).

Lake District Engagement Photography

I let them have a moment to themselves, then we found each other again and I captured them some engagement photos in the Lake District mountains. The view had been hiding behind rain and fog up until then.
I also reassured Cali that Jack had arranged for me to be there, and I wasn’t just a stranger in the bushes taking photos of them!
