The 15 best wedding venues in Derbyshire

My favourite wedding venues in Derbyshire and the East Midlands

Every wedding season I travel all over the UK in my little VW Campervan, Betsy, exploring the far-flung corners of the country with my couples. And as a Derbyshire wedding photographer and a Chesterfield girl, born and bred, I know I may be a little biassed. But I always finish the season convinced of one thing. The wedding venues in Derbyshire and the East Midlands are the best in the UK.

There, I’ve said it. It’s out there.

From stunning stately homes nestled in the rolling hills of the Peak District, to sleek industrial 18th Century mills, we’ve got it all. We’ve got barns, we’ve got tipis, we’ve got yurts. You can even get married in a brewery. Wherever you dream of tying the knot, just look for wedding venues in Derbyshire and the East Midlands. And I promise you, you’ll find somewhere you absolutely love.

But with so much choice comes a challenge in itself, right? Because you can only pick one venue. So how do you pick just one from all the amazing places on offer? Don’t worry, I’m here to help.

I’ve put together a list of all the best wedding venues in Derbyshire and the East Midlands. Whether you’re after luxurious stately homes, historic mills or an outdoor summer ceremony with sweeping views of the Peak District, your dream wedding venue will be on this list. All you have to do is choose your favourite and hope they’re available!

The West Mill, Darley Abbey

Sitting on the banks of the River Derwent, The West Mill is one of the most popular wedding venues in Derbyshire. And it’s ideal if you want your wedding to be a step beyond the ordinary.

With exposed brickwork, barrel-vault ceilings and cast iron columns, it has the striking industrial aesthetic you’d expect from a 200 year old, Grade I listed mill. And the stone floors have been polished to a shine by the feet of busy mill workers over two hundred years ago (they probably polished them during restorations, too. But I like to think it was the workers!)

Step outside and you have the steady sounds of cascading water and stunning views across the weir. Just perfect for wedding photography.

And from a planning point of view, it’s a dream. Firstly, there’s no corkage charge, which is a big tick in the win column. And it’s split over four floors. So you can have different spaces for your ceremony, wedding breakfast and reception. Come rain or shine, there is always somewhere for your guests to be and plenty of spots for photography. And this makes for super smooth sailing, even on rainy days.

Royle Forest

Royle Forest Weddings feels completely hidden away in the best possible way. Tucked deep in woodland, it’s all about nature, freedom, and a really relaxed outdoor wedding experience. If you’re dreaming of a ceremony surrounded by trees and birdsong, this place absolutely delivers.

The woodland ceremony space is super immersive, with the trees creating a natural backdrop that changes beautifully with the seasons. There’s a laid-back, festival-style feel to the whole day, with space for guests to wander and enjoy being outside.
When the light filters through the trees in the evening, it’s honestly magic — perfect for those relaxed, natural moments.

Grange Fields, Long Lane

Grangefields is a gorgeous modern barn venue tucked away in the Derbyshire countryside, and it’s got that perfect mix of rustic charm and clean, contemporary design. The ceremony space is full of natural light, with those beautiful exposed beams and huge windows that make everything feel airy, bright, and really easy to photograph (which is always a win).

What I love about Grangefields is how well thought-out everything is. The flow of the day just works — you’re never far from the next part of the celebration, and it all feels relaxed and unforced. It’s the kind of venue where you can just enjoy the day without thinking too much about logistics.

Outside, you’ve got open countryside views and loads of space for drinks, confetti, and golden-hour portraits. When the light dips in the evening, it really comes alive — it’s such a nice spot to take a few minutes away and soak everything in.
I’m also lucky enough to be a recommended supplier here, so I get to photograph weddings at Grangefields quite often — and it’s always a joy. It really suits couples who want something modern, natural, and a bit stylish without feeling too formal or staged.

Tissington Hall

Tissington Hall is a spectacular country house wedding venue with the rolling hills of the Peak District as a backdrop. Located close to Ashbourne, there’s so many lovely places to make a weekend of your wedding.

This family home opens its doors for couples to have their special day. And the inside of the stately country home is utterly luxurious, with plenty of contemporary modern touches. There’s gorgeous gardens to explore and astonishing views over the rolling hills of Derbyshire. And of course the spectacular house itself. You’re pretty much guaranteed to get some amazing photos any time of year.

The Maynard, Hope Valley

The Maynard is one of those spectacular ‘wow’ wedding venues. With its sweeping lawns, beautifully manicured gardens and stunning views across Hope Valley, it’s a wedding photographer’s dream.

The Maynard has been recently renovated, with a fresh look that still retains the historic charm of the building. If you’re up for a 2 minute drive, we can capture some beautiful couple photos with scenic views across the Peaks. An ideal wedding venue if you’re the adventurous, hiking, outdoorsy type (like me!)

Haarlem Mill, Wirksworth

Haarlem Mill is a former cotton mill, built in 1780. What I love about this Derbyshire wedding venue from a photography point of view, is how they’ve managed to blend the mill’s historic charm with sleek modern touches.

The exposed brickwork and festoon lights give you a cool, industrial setting for your wedding day. And there’s even a sun trap terrace for you and your guests on sunny days. You can spend the whole day here, too. From getting ready in the morning, all the way through to when the last guest stumbles off the dancefloor. And the staff always go above and beyond to make sure your day is really special.

And it’s in such a great location! The mill is a short drive from both Matlock Bath and Middleton Top. Two incredibly romantic places for your couple’s portraits if you’re happy to take a little drive with me.

Barlow Woodseats Hall

Barlow Woodseats Hall is a lovely countryside venue tucked away in the Derbyshire hills, with loads of charm and a really relaxed, homely feel. It’s the kind of place that feels instantly welcoming, with characterful interiors and beautiful surrounding views.

The ceremony space is cosy and intimate, while outside you’ve got plenty of room for drinks and couple portraits. It’s especially nice in the warmer months when everything feels green and open.
A great choice for laid-back weddings with a countryside feel.

Hazel Gap Barn, Edwinstowe

Hazel Gap is the perfect all year round wedding venue, featuring the stunning ceremony room, which transforms into a dancefloor. And another gorgeous space for you to decorate for your wedding breakfast.

Sunlight streams in through the full-length windows of this dramatic red brick barn, making it a wedding photographer’s paradise. And as with all Cripps and Co venues, the food is amazing, with barbecue and French rotisserie options. *Mouth waters, wipes away drool.*

Yeldersley Hall

Yeldersley Hall is such a lovely, laid-back countryside venue near Ashbourne, with a really relaxed and welcoming feel. It’s tucked away with beautiful gardens and open space, so the whole day feels calm and unhurried from the start.

Everything flows really naturally between the house and the outdoor space, which is perfect for drinks, mingling, and just enjoying being outside. It’s one of those venues where everyone can properly switch off and settle into the day.

It’s especially beautiful in the evening — the sunsets here are unreal. The light across the fields makes it such a perfect spot to sneak off for a few quiet minutes and some golden-hour photos.

Losehill House, Edale Lane

If you’re a lover of the Peak District, then Losehill House is the perfect wedding venue. Situated just under Losehill, you can mill about on the sweeping lawns with your guests in the sunshine, with gorgeous views as far as the eye can see. You could even go for a hike on your wedding morning!

Choose between the orangery, bathed in natural light, or an idyllic outdoor ceremony looking out over the hills.

If you choose to have your ceremony and/or reception in the orangery, they close the hotel exclusively for your use for 24 hours. Not only does that mean you can have over 50 of your guests staying overnight, it also means you get exclusive use of the hot tub!

Foxtail Barns

Foxtail Barns is tucked away on the other side of the Peak District and is a venue that is different every time I photograph there! This new, purpose built barn wedding venue has all of those little additions you didn’t know you needed! Getting married in the Orangery allows oodles of natural light, whilst looking out to the Walled Gardens. You can get ready in the dressing room and spend the evening in the party barn.

Speaking from experience, this venue works a dream in that not-so-reliable British weather! Rain on your wedding day is good luck though, right? Oh and not to mention Foxtail Barns gets a big tick for the no corkage option!

Darwin Lake

Darwin Lake is such a fun, versatile venue set in the middle of the Derbyshire countryside, with loads of space and a really relaxed feel. With on-site accommodation and everything in one place, it works perfectly for a full weekend wedding where everyone can properly settle in and enjoy it.

The ceremony space is bright and modern, and there’s loads of room both inside and out for the day to flow easily. Outside, you’ve got lakes, woodland, and open space, which makes it great for wandering, drinks, and relaxed couple portraits.

One of the best things about Darwin Lake is its location — you’re right on the edge of the Peak District, so it’s easy to sneak off for some incredible portraits in the surrounding landscape if you fancy something a bit different.

It’s a brilliant choice if you want a wedding that feels sociable, easygoing, and a bit like a getaway with all your favourite people.

Norwood Park, Southwell

Norwood Park is an impressive yet homely country house wedding venue near Nottingham. I’ve had the pleasure of visiting Norwood at Christmas and in the summer and I can safely say it works all year round! It had a lovely cosy feel to it, with plenty of rooms for your guests to stay in.

Eccentric, whimsical, impressive and oh-so-comfy inside, this is the perfect venue for a winter wedding. But with its sweeping lawns, immaculate gardens and secluded copses in the grounds, it’s a beautiful backdrop for your summer wedding.

Park Farm House, Castle Donington

The 17th Century Park Farm House is a barn wedding venue I always can’t wait to revisit. The converted farm has kept so many of its charming, rustic features and historic character, making it a really unique, fun venue. So it’s ideal if you want your wedding day to be relaxed, laid-back and just a bit different.

They’ve been hosting weddings there for almost 40 years. And there’s different rooms for each part of your day. So you can relax knowing everything will run like clockwork. There’s woods and farmland we can explore together for your couple’s portraits, and a beautiful sun-drenched courtyard for your guests. So from a wedding photography point of view it’s an absolute gem.

Thinking about it, there’s actually not much missing with this venue!

Thorpe Garden – Tamworth

Yurts! Who knew?! Thorpe Garden offers a hand-crafted wooden yurt, with an intimate ceremony room with contemporary wooden beams and stone floors. And it’s absolutely flooded with natural light, ideal for photographs.

The gardens have an amazing attention to detail, with stunning blooms all year round. They also have outdoor ceremony options as well, making it an awesome venue for a summer wedding if you’re feeling lucky with the weather!

Knockerdown Cottages

Knockerdown Cottages is such a fun, laid-back venue — perfect if you want a full weekend wedding with all your favourite people. With cottages on-site, it feels like your own little private village, which makes everything super relaxed and unhurried.

The setting is simple and surrounded by countryside, but the real highlight is the atmosphere — everyone together, celebrating over a full weekend rather than just one day.
Ideal for couples who want something informal, sociable, and a bit different.

Eyam Hall

Eyam Hall is a beautiful historic venue right in the heart of the Peak District, full of character and timeless charm. The house itself has that classic country manor feel, with elegant rooms and plenty of lovely period details.

What’s great about Eyam Hall is how flexible it is — it works just as well for smaller, more intimate weddings inside the house as it does for bigger celebrations with a marquee in the gardens. The outdoor space is perfect for it, with loads of room and a really relaxed countryside setting.

The gardens are a real highlight too, especially in the warmer months when everything’s in bloom, making it a lovely spot for drinks, portraits, and a slower-paced, romantic feel to the day.

The Pheasantry, East Markham

The Pheasantry in East Markham is the perfect wedding venue for a summer wedding. There’s a lovely outdoor ceremony option and you’re surrounded by stunning countryside. There’s a warm, friendly atmosphere, and it’s part of a working brewery so it’s great if you love beer!

And there are no neighbours. I repeat, no neighbours! So you can party as wild as you like!

Whistle Barns

Whistle Barns is a stylish barn venue with a modern countryside feel, blending rustic textures with a clean, contemporary design. It’s bright, airy, and really easy to make your own.

The ceremony space has plenty of natural light, and outside you’ve got open views and space for a relaxed drinks reception. Everything flows nicely, which makes the day feel easy and stress-free.

Perfect for couples who want a barn wedding that feels simple, modern, and relaxed.
