A colourful family wedding in the Brecon Beacons

Some weddings have it all…

Some weddings are spectacularly beautiful; colourful, stylish, and cool. Some are heartfelt and homely; some are family-filled, musical, and fun. Bethan and Edward’s wedding in the Brecon Beacons was all of the above.

We had a slow morning at home, and a ceremony at their local church. A swift drink in their favourite pub, an adventure through the hills in a decades-old Land Rover. And to finish the day, a stunning reception in their family home.

There was music and laughter, the most amazing colour palette, *the loveliest* of people. And all of it backdropped by the breathtaking beauty you’d expect from a wedding in the Brecon Beacons.

If you’re dreaming a day with family at its heart, this is all the inspiration you could ever need. Come take a little look…

Bridal styling inspo for your wedding in the Brecon Beacons

Bethan had a super-chilled morning at her parents’ house, with two of her besties as bridesmaids. And I think this is the best way to start your wedding day, you know? Just a handful of your favourite people, telling stories, having drinks, and enjoying the morning together.

And oh wow, Beth looked incredible! She wore a knockout gown from Gillian Million– with a deep-V neck, and lace detailing on the hem and the sleeves. It looked almost…medieval with how beautiful it was!

She completed the look with a vibrant bouquet of sunflowers, roses and dahlias, and an actual real-life crown?! For a wedding in the Brecon Beacons (or anywhere for that matter!) her look was absolute bridal goals!

We had prosecco and photos with her people in the garden. And with the church bells calling, we made our way down the road to the ceremony.

Tophats, tails, and flashes of teal

Meanwhile, my second shooter (and other half) Adam, was with Ed and his boys at Caer Llan Conference Centre.

The boys looked suave in top hats and tails. Flashes of teal, and butter-rose buttonholes; personally selected ties, and cufflink favours for the boys.

After some groomsmen portraits on the balcony with *that* view, Adam ran on ahead to catch the guests arriving. And a little while later, I arrived with Beth at the church…

Just one of the many bonuses of having two of us!

A musical wedding ceremony in the Brecon Beacons

Earlier that week, Beth’s mum had been there with the other church members- cleaning all of the church and the grounds, getting everything ready ahead of the day.

And honestly the attention to detail was immaculate

The font was overflowing with flowers. The orders of service, tied in frayed teal ribbon; the teal hymn-book covers for the wedding party, the vicar, and the choir.

An opera singer, and a trumpet player serenaded Beth as she walked down the aisle. And I loved that moment as she reached the altar…the little look to her dad as they reached the front; the beaming smile when her eyes met Ed’s. Ahh! I had butterflies and goosebumps all at once!

The ceremony was super-personal, and beautifully heartfelt.

E&B joined a choir of their friends who sang during the ceremony. And as the vicar made it official, they strolled back down the aisle as husband and wife.

A Land Rover, prosecco, and a tunnel of confetti

We headed outside into the sunshine- had congratulations, and catch-ups, and “don’t you look beautiful?!” hugs.

And as the guests started making their way to the reception, we nipped over the road to E&B’s favourite pub, The Lion Inn.

A hug with the landlady (and a glass of Prosecco!) later, we were bounding through the Brecon Beacons in their bright red Land Rover. E&B laughed and chatted away in the backseat; the Welsh hills glowing gold in the summer sun.

A little while later, we arrived at the reception. The guests whooped, and clapped and cheered. And Beth and Ed laughed their way into their reception through a tunnel of confetti.

A drinks reception with a view

When you dream of a wedding in the Brecon Beacons, this is what you imagine. The guests mingled and chatted away in the sunshine. The canapés were tasty, the drinks were flowing. And in the background, the hills of South Wales undulated quietly beneath the sun.

We had group shots on the sweeping lawn, and some family portraits in the shade. Oh and of course, a TON of photos of their family spaniel, Anwen!

With canapés nibbled, and drinks drained, we headed into the marquee…

Reception styling for your wedding in the Brecon Beacons

Ed’s sister is a super-talented florist. And honestly, she absolutely nailed it!

Baskets of sunflowers, dahlias, and roses welcomed us into the marquee. The banqueting tables were filled with flashes of yellow and amber from the florals. And as a stylish touch, the elegant stationery in teal and white.

We had three amazing courses, and lots of hilarious speeches. And for pudding? An epic stack of over 400 welsh cakes!

It was just the most amazing family meal, filled with laughter and love, and colour in every corner. And a little while later, we were gathered outside, fully gawping at the most incredible coral sunset.

A coral sunset and a CRAZY party!

Golden hour was well and truly upon us! So I took a stroll with Ed and Beth through the fields in that incredible light.

And as a wedding photographer, I adore these stolen moments throughout the day.

E&B chatted away by themselves. They danced, they laughed, they kissed. The sound of birdsong and the happy babble of guests carried over to us across the fields. And gradually, slowly, the sun sank its head behind the hills of South Wales.

When we got back to the marquee, the party was just kicking off (and man, did it kick off!)

It began with their friends’ jazz band bringing all kinds of crazy energy! And as the first dance ended, a DJ and sax player came on and absolutely filled the marquee with music!

Beth swapped her heels for trainers (and that’s when you know it’s getting serious!) Pints and prosecco were in full flow, hands were flying, people were stumbling, singing, drinking, dancing. And music spilled out of the marquee and carried out across the hillside late into the night.
