A stylish, fun, heartfelt wedding at Thornbridge Hall
They had a magician, and a bucking bronco…
Elegant summer styling in an epic stately-home. An outdoor ceremony with a breathtaking view, and just-married kisses in a vintage Rolls. It was beautiful, hilarious, and just FULL of surprises. This is Rose and Lewis’ wedding at Thornbridge Hall.
But what I loved most about this day was how much fun it was.
Every part of the day was a new experience- filled with music, magic, and all kinds of games. And as night fell, 200 people filled the hall, and the party *raged*.
If you’re dreaming of a wedding at Thornbridge Hall, come check it out. R&L’s day was practically perfect in every way.

Fun fact: Rose is a nanny for Jim and Emma (the couple who own the hall). And it gave the whole day this wonderfully laid-back, ‘family home wedding’ vibe.
And let me tell you, this is one super-fancy family home!
You can say your vows in the Great Hall, or the elegant Music Room. Or in the gardens, looking out across the Peaks. Have Pimms on the lawn; feast in The Carriage House. And rave through the night in the Underground Cellar Bar.
And the gardens? Oh my, the gardens! There’s Italianate gardens, a water garden, woodland, and a koi lake. 3 temples, 46 urns, 2 grottos, a greenhouse, an orangery, and (I imagine) a partridge in a pear tree.
If you’re looking for a stately home that actually feels like home, Thornbridge Hall wedding venue is the place.
Pronovias, prosecco, peonies, and the pub
Our morning began in the oh-so-comfy rooms of Thornbridge Hall.
The ceremony time was a super-relaxed 3pm. So we had plenty of time to chill out, chat, and drink a ton of prosecco!
Rose wore a stylish silk halterneck from Pronovias. She had elegant makeup, a knotted bun, and a cathedral-length veil. And a gorgeous stock flower, peony and rose bouquet.
She had a fun first look with her girls, and a few quiet moments with her dad.
And with the ceremony calling, she made her way down *that* staircase. And out into the sunshine for her wedding in Thornbridge Hall.

A little way away, my other half Adam was having a very different morning with the boys! Music was blaring, beer was flowing. Somehow they all ended up at the pub with the guests!
And as 3pm neared, they drained their drinks, and headed through the grounds to the ceremony.

Bees buzzed in the lavender; birds sang from the trees. And backdropping the altar- the most spectacular view across the rolling hills.
And as Rose made her way down the aisle…the way Lewis looked at her…ahhh! My heart!
I’ll be honest though, the ceremony itself was a series of disasters! The microphone wasn’t working, and the registrar couldn’t project her voice. She also said Rose’s middle name wrong (this is your friendly reminder to book a celebrant!)
But you know what? None of that really mattered. R&L laughed it off, and held hands the whole way through. Completely unphased, and beaming with happiness.
And as the registrar made it official, an absolute roar filled the gardens, and carried out across the hills.
Magic, Pimms, confetti, and croquet.
The next couple of hours were utterly idyllic. Like a watercolour daydream of an English country wedding.
Confetti kisses, backdropped by the majestic stately home. Flower girls being adorable; Pimms and croquet on the sunny lawn.
They had rustic a limoncello bar. And a magician so bafflingly good it bordered on wizardry. It was perfect, you know? Relaxed, considered, and so wonderfully them.
The guests began making their way over to the meal. And Jim (the owner of the hall) pulled up and offered us a ride…
Just-married kisses in a vintage Rolls
A little while later, we were driving through the sunny grounds. Lewis and Rose, kissing in the backseat- the wind in their hair, the veil flowing behind them in the breeze.
They spent some time soaking it all in, enjoying a little peace, and catching up on their days.
And (after a quick stop for one last magic trick!) they strolled into The Carriage House to a wall of applause.
Reception styling inspo for your wedding in Thornbridge Hall
I don’t say this lightly…The Carriage House might be the most gorgeously photogenic reception space I’ve ever seen.
The air smelled like citrus; the tables were covered in lemons, and flowers. They had dried-orange place settings, and limoncello favours; endless wine, and beers in buckets.
But my favourite bit has got to be the speeches.
They’d made a big banner with all of Lewis’ texts about Rose from when they first started going out. It was so sweet, and so funny. And I just love that he’s been absolutely besotted with her since the moment they met. Even if Lewis’ dad did write them all on one of his teenage bedsheets!!!
We feasted on the world’s tastiest food! And with full hearts and fuzzy heads, we headed outside for one final surprise…
This is your sign to get a bucking bronco
Pro tip: If you want ridiculous, fun, unhinged photos of your guests, get a bucking bronco.
Everyone was gathered around- watching, drinking, laughing. Seriously, rodeo bulls should be standard at every wedding!
We still had a little bit of time before the party. So while the guests were wrestling with the bull, I snuck away with R&L for a little breather in the grounds.
They had cuddles in the alcoves, and kisses by the lake. We wandered through the woods, and found fairy-garden paths disappearing into the trees. They danced on the lawn- Rose sprawled out in her dress, half-cut and belly-laughing on the sun-warm grass.
And dusk began to fall, we headed back for the party…
The only way to finish a wedding at Thornbridge Hall
The evening guests had arrived, and 120 had become 200.
And oh man, it went OFF!
Girls that Mix filled the room with all kinds of wild, crazy, unhinged energy! There were LED glow sticks, and headband ties; beers, Aperol, and prosecco flowed. I ended up taking my camera harness off and just having one in my hand so I could get in the thick of it!
R&L went outside for one last ride in the bull. We hugged them goodbye, and left them to party until the early hours.
The ripple effect
It all began with Fran and Adam, and their daughters, Ivy and Grace. I photographed them in 2020. And then again the year after that.
Then it was their friends’ children, Freddie and Lottie. Then Fran’s cousin, Natalie, when she married James. A year after that, Arabella came along. And I got to capture them as a family of three.
Fran and Adam got married in 2024 (which I photographed, of course!) And that was where I met her other cousin, Rose.
And that’s the thing about being a wedding photographer.
It’s never just for a day.
I get to be a part of people’s lives; to be invited into their families. I get to meet their parents, hear their vows, and watch their children grow up. It’s no small thing. And not something I’ll ever take for granted.
