An Intimate Isle of Skye Elopement
Eloping to the Isle of Skye – Emily & Clayton’s Wild Scottish Adventure

A Change of Plans (and the Best Kind of Spontaneity)
Last November, I had the absolute joy of photographing Emily and Clayton’s elopement on the Isle of Skye—and wow, what a day it was. These two legends flew over from the USA to celebrate their five-year anniversary in the most epic way possible: by eloping in the Scottish Highlands. Dreamy, right?
Funny story – Emily and Clayton first reached out to me about eloping in the Peak District—but as luck would have it, I was going to be in Scotland that week. I apologised that I wouldn’t be in the Peaks, but said if they were up for an elopement in Scotland then I was totally down for that. Emily’s response was “I am writing to you because my fiancé fell even more in love with Isle of Skye then he did with the Peak District!”. Just like that, their Isle of Skye elopement was born, and I was already counting down the days.
Their trust in me meant so much—they weren’t tied to a specific place, just excited to have a meaningful, beautiful day captured by me. And honestly? That’s better than any Google review!
Road Tripping Scotland in the Campervan
We’ve been lucky to see a lot of the world from our little van, but no where feels quite the same as a wild trip to Scotland. We headed to the Isle of Skye after 4 days exploring the Isle of Arran. One of the best things about van life is that I can be super flexible—I bring my accommodation with me, so I’m always ready to capture an elopement wherever the adventure takes us. Whether it’s the Highlands, Skye, Glencoe, or somewhere totally off-grid, I’m there with boots on, camera in hand and often a wee spaniel by my side.
A Weekend in the Highlands with friends, fire & Whisky
Being an elopement photographer is a huge responsibility, and never a straightforward task. It’s an adventure and everything I live for. There’s only one elopement videographer I would recommend, my work bestie Jaye, from Rue & Wild. As you keep scrolling, you will find the incredible elopement film she has created.
For this little weekend, we traded in Van Life and had the cosiest little adventure, with Jaye and her husband, Matt. It was all hands-on deck, with everyone pitching in behind the scenes to help make the day extra special.
The night before Emily and Clayton’s elopement, Adam and I went out location scouting to find the perfect ceremony spot. We wandered around the Fairy Pools as the sun (yes sun, in Scotland, who would have thought it!?) dipped behind the mountains, checking out quiet corners and taking mental notes of where the light hit just right. Naturally, we expected the Fairy Pools to be busy on a Saturday, so it was important we found a secluded ceremony space for them to exchange their vows. It felt so special to be trusted to hand-pick a place for them that we knew would be peaceful, private, and stunning.
Cosy Isle of Skye Accommodation
Emily and Clayton got ready together in their own Airbnb, and I’m always a big fan of couples doing that. It keeps things relaxed, intimate, and full of those quiet, real moments.
They spent some time privately writing out their vows, helped each other into their elopement outfits and we were ready to hit the windy roads of Scotland.
A Personal, Magical Ceremony at the Fairy Pools
Never underestimate the journey when you’re on a road trip in Scotland, simply driving the Skye roads is beyond beautiful!
We found our perfect little hidden-away spot near the Fairy Pools for their ceremony. It was peaceful, dramatic, and totally private—just them, surrounded by the wild Scottish landscape. They read personal vows, exchanged rings, and shared whisky from a personalised Scottish quaich, which was such a beautiful touch. Jaye and I may or may not have welled up behind the lens…
Planning an Isle of Skye Elopement
When planning an elopement, you often know everything that is going to unfold. But as an elopement photographer, I like to make sure there’s some element of surprise in there! Following E & C’s ceremony, Jaye and I had picked up some flowers and made natural confetti, which added the loveliest little flourish (eco-friendly and cute – win-win). And the best part? I’d secretly found out their favourite song and the boys had it ready to play right after the ceremony. As soon as it came on, they instinctively started dancing right there next to the water—a spontaneous first dance in the Scottish Mountains that honestly gave us goosebumps. The song was Wet Sand by Red Hot Chilli Peppers if you want to visualise it!

Portraits in the Misty Mountains of Skye
After the ceremony, we went exploring across the rugged landscape for some portraits. The Isle of Skye always delivers with its wild, moody vibe—mist rolling over the hills, dramatic cliffs, and that magic light that makes everything feel cinematic. Emily & Clayton were totally up for anything, they had complete trust in mine & Jaye’s creative brains. The beauty of an elopement on a Scottish island is that you don’t need to tackle with tourists at the famous beauty spots, like Old Man of Storr and Quiraing. You can simply pull over at the side of the road and you’ve got an epic elopement backdrop. This is exactly what we did at Sligachan Bridge. Shortly met by our partners, Adam & Matt who had called for some hot chocolates to warm us all up!
With Emily’s dress flowing in the wind, Clayton looking at her like she hung the stars—we got to creating some moody elopement portraits.
Back to the Airbnb for Cake and Cosy Vibes
The celebration continued back at their Airbnb, where they cut a little cake, shared a toast, and just soaked it all in. No big fuss, just the two of them, doing things their way—and that’s what made it so special.
