Holly & Dan’s DIY Wedding in Lincolnshire
Oh, the story of Holly & Dan is a lovely one, all you hopeless romantics, keep reading! I shared this on my Instagram after Holly & Dan’s DIY Lincolnshire wedding in August and it had so much love, so I thought it should make a permanent feature on my website.
First, we need to rewind back to August 2021. I was invited to photograph the wedding of Lucy & Sam, a wonderful at home tipi wedding in the Lincolnshire countryside. When I met the tribe of bridesmaids, I was told about Lucy’s master plan. Obviously to marry Sam was on the agenda, but setting up her sister was a priority!
If planning a DIY wedding wasn’t enough, Lucy’s mission was to get her sister and her friend from uni on the dance floor together. They were even sat next to each other on the seating plan!!
I think you probably know what’s coming next, but for those of you that always need the plot explaining (usually me), Holly is Lucy’s sister & Dan is the friend from uni! Fast forward two years later and I was back at their beautiful family home, but for Holly & Dan’s wedding. Tell me this isn’t the sweetest story?! I captured their first photo together and now I’ve taken their first photos as husband and wife.
Homegrown flowers, Great British weather & a village church wedding!
Holly & Dan got married August bank holiday weekend in 2023, and being a UK wedding, we naturally had every weather to contend with! Holly grew up in a beautiful home on a farm in Lincolnshire, so it was the perfect setting for them. Just a short walk away from the church, all they needed was a sailcloth tent looking out to the Lincolnshire countryside. The flowers that brightened up the marquee were all grown in Holly’s Garden Kitchen, with the bouquets put together by The Lincolnshire Flower Company, the bride even made her own wedding cake!
After a chilled morning getting ready and some very emotional first looks, we headed to the church which was filled with Holly & Dan’s loved ones. We got an epic confetti shot and everyone headed back to the house for the drinks reception.
Views of the Lincolnshire countryside, group photos & one epic golden hour!
Their group photos were a military operation as we watched the rain rolling in! We absolutely nailed it and got all of the important photos – a prime example of why you never need many group photos…
We spent the afternoon hiding from the rain in the marquee, listening to some amazing speeches and eating some bloody good food!
And would you believe it, we were blessed with a beautiful sunset!! I’d take a bit of rain on a wedding day for an epic golden hour any day.
As if the day hadn’t been soo much fun as it was, but we finished it with a nod to Dan’s Scottish heritage and had a Ceilidh! It was the first time I had photographed one and you definitely have to be a photographer who gets stuck in to get the best shots! Obviously, I had to join in a bit too!!
Holly & Dan, thank you so much for having me there to capture your journey. I had the best time capturing your wedding alongside my videographer pal, Wild Love Visuals.
