Peak District Proposal Photography
Planning a secret proposal in the Peak District?
So, you’ve decided to get down on one knee in the Peak District. Excellent choice.
Maybe you’re planning a surprise weekend away, perhaps you’re staying somewhere around Bakewell, Hathersage or Castleton, or maybe you’re just looking for an excuse to drag your other half into the hills without them becoming suspicious.
Whatever the plan, I’m here to help you pull off the ultimate surprise proposal.
I’m a Peak District proposal photographer, and this is home for me. I spend so much of my free time wandering around the Peak District, photographing weddings, hiking, exploring, and generally finding excuses to be outside.
Which means I know the area really well.
And, importantly, I know a lot of the places that don’t immediately appear when you Google “best places to propose in the Peak District”.
Finding somewhere a little more secret
There are some obvious Peak District proposal locations. They’re beautiful, of course, but they can also be very busy.
If you’re imagining getting down on one knee with a spectacular view behind you, but not with 47 people, three dogs and a family eating sandwiches in the background, then it’s worth thinking beyond the obvious spots.
I know the quieter corners, the little paths, the views that you only really appreciate once you’ve walked a bit further, and the places that can feel completely different depending on the time of day.
I won’t list all of those locations here because, frankly, I quite like keeping a few Peak District secrets secret!
Instead, when you book me, we can work together to find somewhere that is perfect for you both, based on how much walking you’d like to do, roughly where you’re staying/coming from and the best time of day.
A proposal photography double act
I usually photograph proposals with Adam, my boyfriend and fellow photographer, which means we can capture the whole thing together while blending in as two completely innocent people out for a walk.
No hiding behind a bush for three hours required.
We can walk ahead, hang back, stop to admire the view or pretend we’re photographing each other. We just look like two other hikers enjoying the Peak District. (And sometimes Luna, our spaniel, comes along too.)
No one ever suspects two other people wandering around photographing a beautiful view, with their dog in tow.
It also means we can photograph the proposal from two different perspectives. I can concentrate on the reaction while Adam captures the wider landscape and the two of you together.
So you get the big moment, the little reactions and the Peak District setting all happening at once.
What happens on the day?
Before the proposal, we’ll have a plan.
I’ll help you choose the location and, where possible, I’ll recce it beforehand so we know where you need to be and how we can make everything feel natural.
On the day, we’ll keep in touch so I know roughly where you are – sharing your location on Whatsapp is always helpful!
Then you just go for a walk.
No rehearsing. No acting. No suddenly becoming suspiciously romantic.
When you reach the right spot, you ask the question and we’ll capture it from nearby.
The nervous face.
The moment they realise what’s happening.
The “OH MY GOD!”
The tears.
The massive hug afterwards.
And then we’ll give you a little bit of space to actually enjoy being engaged before we start taking more photos.
And then we can explore
Once the secret is out, we can carry on walking and take some natural photos of the two of you together.
Nothing stiff or overly posed.
Just walking, chatting, laughing, taking in the views and generally enjoying the fact that you’re now engaged.
The Peak District makes a pretty spectacular backdrop for it.
And because the hard part is already over, you can actually relax and enjoy yourselves.
Why choose me for your Peak District proposal?
The biggest reason is probably the fact that I know the Peak District really well.
This isn’t somewhere I travel to for the occasional proposal. It’s my home.
I know the quieter spots, the popular spots, the places that look completely different depending on the weather, the places that have phone signal, and the little details that can make a location work brilliantly for a proposal.
I also know that Peak District weather can change its mind approximately twelve times in one afternoon, so we’ll keep an eye on the forecast and adapt the plan if we need to.
Whether you’re staying somewhere like Bakewell, Hathersage or Castleton, or the Peaks is also home for you, I can help you find somewhere that works.
And because the Peaks are home, travel within the Peak District is included.
So if you’re planning a secret proposal in the hills, tell me what you’ve got in mind, where you’re staying and roughly when you’re coming & I’ll help you work out the rest.
If you want to know a little more about how it all works, you can have a nosey at my adventure proposal photography page.
